Our Story
Vision Ed, Inc (VEI) was founded in 2002. It’s sister organization, RoboFun, is a business that provides after-school and in-school programming in New York City. VEI was created as a nonprofit organization in the image of RoboFun to extend our reach and provide STEAM-based learning experiences to underserved schools and communities.
About 20 years ago our founder, Laura Allen, began working with Dr. Seymour Papert, of the MIT Media Lab. Her work developed into a series of summer professional development workshops in Deer Isle, Maine called “The Stonington Retreat”. The workshops, modeled after studio art classrooms for teachers to “get their hands dirty with technology,” resulted in teachers experiencing renewed excitement about their craft and about new materials to introduce to their students.
Laura has been awarded the Enterprising Woman of the Year in 2006 & 2008 by Enterprising Women Magazine. Laura is the recipient of two grants from the National Science Foundation totaling over 3 Million in NSF funding.
